A new year brings a clean slate and a renewed sense of focus. We just told you about the best small business podcasts to help you jump-start 2017. Lewis Howes and his School of Greatness podcast made this list, and we would be doing you a disservice if we didn’t take a moment to tell you about this inbound marketing genius.
Like many entrepreneurs, Howes’ journey to becoming the man he is today has not been straightforward. Growing up, he always dreamed of becoming a professional athlete. Unfortunately, his professional football career was cut short due to an injury, and with no income or job prospects, he moved in with his sister and used this downtime to learn how people were making money on the internet.
Through his active presence on LinkedIn, he quickly became one of the most connected sporting personalities on the social media platform. Howes used the connections that he made on LinkedIn to begin hosting meetup events in the real world, which ultimately turned into an income stream for him.
During this time, he was invited by inbound marketer Joel Comm to host a LinkedIn marketing webinar. Howes was so successful with this that he eventually went on to co-found an online teaching company to address topics such as LinkedIn marketing and similar subjects. The company earned several million dollars over the course of just three years.
After this, he took a short break and then came back with a bang when he started his new venture, School of Greatness. This highly successful self-help podcast has since received millions of downloads. School of Greatness has also opened up the opportunity for Howes to provide high-performance business coaching.
Today he is recognized for being a New York Times bestselling author, lifestyle entrepreneur, online marketing genius, business coach, and keynote speaker. His story of how his career has evolved is very honest and relatable. This is what makes Howes so appealing to the masses, and even more so, his determination to turn lemons into lemonade inspires us all to focus on the end goal.
