How to Use the Facebook Local App to Host an Event

In an effort to compete with business discovery tools such as Yelp and FourSquare to attract local traffic, Facebook has created the Facebook Local app to help businesses drive in-store visits.

How Does the Facebook Local App Work?

Although Facebook and Facebook Local are two different apps, users have the same login and profile for both platforms, thus retaining the same connections with friends, businesses, and events. Facebook Local gives you the ability to tap into an audience of consumers using their mobile devices to find local businesses and get more people walking through your door.

A powerful way to get your business discovered by local consumers is to use Facebook Local to host an event. When you create an event for your business, consumers will come across it when using Facebook Local to find upcoming events in their area. Once consumers click on the event on the Facebook Local app, they’ll be able to find the same event details that they would see on Facebook.

How Do You Use Facebook Local to Create an Event?

When creating an event on Facebook Local, the first thing that you’ll need to do is merge your Facebook Place and Business pages. Merging pages will allow you to use a united front to promote your event and eliminate any customer confusion.

Begin the merging process by searching for your business in the Facebook Local app to see if a page has already been created. If a page has already been created, you’ll need to claim it by clicking on the “Is this your business?” button. You will then select the option to merge the Facebook Local page with your business Facebook page.

If there is not an existing page in place for your business on Facebook Local, you will be prompted to create a page. Upon doing this, you will want to merge this page with your Facebook business page.

Now you’re ready to create an event and promote it using Facebook Local. To create an event, go to your business Facebook page and select “Events” from the menu on the lefthand side of your screen. Then choose “Create Event” and provide the details. Once you’re finished, hit “Publish.” Your event will now be live on Facebook and the Facebook Local app, which will broaden your online reach and help to attract local traffic to your event.
